Exam period probably felt like one of the most stressful times of your life. I know, because I’ve been there. It is also likely that you had a lot of people telling you how great it would feel when your exams were done. Except they were wrong. In fact, you are likely to be just as nervous about receiving the results as you were when you sat the exams. So to help you through this tense period, here are a few tips you can use to banish those nerves.
1. Take up a hobby
Chances are you might be feeling more nervous than you have to about your results because it’s all you can think about. So why not take up a hobby! Spending a few hours a week doing something new will help take your thoughts off your exam results and keep your mind focused elsewhere.
Yoga is a particularly great hobby to take up when your body and mind is in need of relaxation. However if you can’t quite picture yourself in a yoga pose, why not have a shot at that hobby you’ve secretly always wanted to do? You’ll soon realise your days of dwelling on your exams are gone.
2. Make plans with friends
Socializing with your friends is one of the quickest and easiest ways to reduce stress and calm your nerves. You’ll realise that you have so much else to gossip about, that the thought of your looming results won’t even cross your mind.
Days out to the cinema, a trip to the beach or a visit to the shops with your best friends can work a treat. But if you’re still living on a student budget, inviting them round for pizza and a chat will do the job!
3. Blast your favourite songs
When you realise you’ve started to think about your results again, put your favourite album on. Music is a proven method and a great way to get rid of that anxious feeling. It is also a great excuse to be able to play your music on full blast without having your parents telling you to ‘turn that racket down’.
If all the stress is causing you sleeping trouble too, popping your headphones in and playing music quietly when you get into bed will be a sure fired way to lull you to sleep.
4. Ditch the junk
If you’re anything like me, the first thing you do when you’re feeling stressed is dive into junk food in a bid to make yourself feel better. But this never works.
Eating junk food will make you feel more lethargic and ultimately, leave you feeling worse. Unfortunately, eating an apple a day won’t keep the stress away. But eating healthily will stop you from feeling any worse.
5… and breathe!
The most simple and seemingly obvious tip I can give you is to just breathe. After all, you gave it your best and you can’t change anything now.
And even if your results don’t go the way you wanted them to, just remember that some of the world’s biggest entrepreneurs didn’t even finish their college or university education.
